The Kingston Stronger Together HUB that formed at the end of March, in response to the Covid crisis, is an incredible example of the extensive community impact that can happen when charities, businesses and the council all work together in partnership.

Our role as part of this HUB was to coordinate and run the Kingstonaid Food HUB; to make meals available to all those in the Kingston Borough who weren’t able to cook for themselves. This couldn’t have happened without the support and resources given through the local businesses and organisations on the next slide. From freezer donations to vegetables, plastic containers to cakes, financial donations to food donations; the generosity and strategic partnership around the Food HUB has been nothing short of remarkable. Having offered to undertake clothes washing for the homeless, the Kingston Food & Wash HUB took off!

Since 20th of March, as a project team we have:

  • Established the Kingstonaid Food & Wash HUB
  • Secured suitable premises for food storage, preparation and cooking
  • Partnered with Kingston Council and integrated with their borough-wide triaging process
  • In addition to Council referrals, we have also taken referrals from local charity sector groups
  • Identified and filled key personnel positions
  • Established project delivery infrastructure and logistics
  • Developed low-cost and free food supply chains
  • Mobilised a team of more than 100 non-shielded volunteers
  • Operated as a fully functioning food preparation and delivery service from Week One, so far having delivered more than 20,000 meals!
  • Catered for over 400 individuals on a daily basis
  • Provided hot meals for every homeless person staying in the Kingston Travelodge
  • Donated over 10 tonnes of food to local charities
  • Provided more than 2,000 goodie bags containing fresh fruit, bread and treats for vulnerable individuals
  • Delivered over 300 'With Love' parcels to those who are part of the VoH Choir community
  • Undertaken weekly clothes washing for every homeless person staying at the Kingston Travelodge
